FW Filming Starts

Local newspaper article about the filming in Chester ... Chester Chronicle: 1940s action in city streets

Note that one the female residents in the street is quoted as saying "We're all looking out for Michael Kitchen, the older lady's crumpet!" Well, I guess that sums us up!

Are there photos with the article? I can't get it to open, even directly from the main website. I keep getting a blank screen and a message saying "Safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred." Whatever that means.

Two local ladies queue for (sadly distant) crumpet in Tattershall. :eyeroll:
Whoops. Tattenhall.

There is a short video of the filming, and a gallery of photos. Mr K wasn't at the shoot, but this is the one Anthony Horowitz donned a trilby for, and the photo we've already seen is included. Here is the text ...

Lights, camera and plenty of 1940s action in city streets
    by Frances Barrett

Pinstripe suit and trilby-clad men and women sporting victory rolls and kitten heels descended on two city streets this morning as 1940s detective drama Foyle’s War came to Chester.

Albion Street and Steele Street were transformed with metal dustbins, replica cast iron lamp posts, Silver Cross prams and a horse and cart to film a market scene for the hit ITV show’s ninth series, which is expected to air next year.

Even the road got a 1940s makeover, with its double yellow lines carefully concealed with foam cobbles.

The Victorian terraced house-lined streets were selected by producers because of their similarity to those in post-war London, where the series is set.

Although there were no signs of stars Michael Kitchen or Honeysuckle Weeks, writer Anthony Horowitz spent the day on set.

Christina and Mike Mercer opened up the doors of their pub, The Albion Inn, as a base for the extras.

Violet Hunt, 84, has lived on Albion Street for the past 48 years and described seeing the extras’ costumes and the horse and cart as ‘a walk down memory lane’.

Violet added: “I definitely can’t wait for it to come on screen.”

Patricia Garvin, another Albion Street resident, was hoping to catch a glimpse of Foyle himself. She said: “We’re all looking out for Michael Kitchen, the older lady’s crumpet!”

Patricia praised the production crew, who were allowing residents and intrigued passersby to watch the filming process unfold.

“Everybody has been so polite and helpful which is nice, as it has required a bit of cooperation from us to move our cars but we’re happy to do it,” she added.

Catherine Bottomley, of Steele Street, said: “It’s all great fun. I’ve never been so close to a film set before and it’s nice that they’re letting us wander around.”

The crew and cast then upped sticks to Tattenhall to shoot scenes in two empty shops on Church Bank.

That may be as close as we get to seeing a "Foyle selfie." :foyle5:

And next week is the last week of filming, I am going to miss those daily updates, thanks to http://kitchenfoyle.tumblr.com/ site for keeping us in the loop, with great pictures of the set and the man himself, invariably with a mobile phone in hand.

Looking forward to seeing series 9 at some point, um, what year is that coming out in Canada - late 2015?

Here's an article about the Lord Mayor of Liverpool visiting the FW set.

"They were introduced to Honeysuckle Weeks" - looks as if Michael managed to cop out of this....
