Celebrity Button Art

To make you smile ...

A few years ago, a woman by the name of Karen Gammon hit on the idea of sending buttons to various celebrities and asking each person if he/she would be willing to do some art work around the object which would then be published in a book to be sold to raise funds for charity. The result was a paperback titled Celebrity Button Art: an A-Z of celebrity mini masterpieces, published in 2010 by Kingfisher Print & Design Ltd. Michael Kitchen was one of the celebs approached by Ms Gammon and this was his contribution ...

When I first glanced at that drawing, one of the first things I thought of was "The Man in the Yellow Hat" from Curious George :eyeroll: But yes of course, it Foyle! And the middle of the button looks like coffee beans (or maybe I'm just craving more coffee).

Adorable! D'you reckon it's meant to be a self-portrait as Foyle?

Can't figure out how you see the little guy as Foyle, Lesley. To me, he looks like a cowboy sporting sixguns.

Just because of the hat. I didn't see the six guns. And is the button meant to be a lasso then? Makes sense. I assumed it was a balloon. :noidea:

The hat made you think of Foyle? Yikes! I know I've complained a lot over the years about Michael Kitchen apparently not having any idea of the correct way to wear a trilby (plonking the darned thing square on your head just looks silly), but I've never had to complain about him having the brim turned downover! :D

You're worrying me, Lesley ... Foyle in a droopy brimmed hat and holding a balloon! What have you been drinking?

How cute! I remember hearing about the button, but never saw the actual one.

Thanks, Lynne

I reckon you'd have to opt for second-hand now, Mohair, but second-hand copies aren't likely to be easily come by, as the original print run will have been rather limited.

Two second hand copies on Amazon's UK site, one £75, the other £231.99

Not what I'd be prepared to pay!!

Amazon.com is not the best or cheapest place for used books. As a librarian, I recommend http://www.bookfinder.com, http://www.abebooks.com or http://www.alibris.com. All these are search the inventory of a large number of used book stores in many different countries. I've picked up quite a few bargains, especially with bookfinder.

I've checked all those for this title, and there are four available on bookfinder -- two in the UK. The cheaper is 75 pounds and the other a whopping 232 pounds. So you can get the book, but it ain't cheap!

For that price, he would have to come attached to the button

Got to love that he was a good sport and participated. As for the downturned brim, maybe it's Foyle in a drenched fishing-hat. :whistling:

At that extortionate price, I'll be happy just to smile at Lynne's drawing.
Thanks for sharing, Lynne.
