Michael Kitchen audio books - list

Postby Lynnedean » Thu Nov 17, 2011 4:30 pm

Listed for reference: Michael Kitchen audio books to date, with approximate playing times.

Notes:
Years given are release dates.
Chivers Audio Books later became BBC Audiobooks, 85% of which was sold to AudioGO Ltd in 2010.
AudioGo ceased to trade in 2014. A number of Chivers/AudioGo recordings became available on MP3-CD in 2015 (see notes under various titles); it is to be hoped that more will follow.
The list mentions cassette and CD releases only; no indication is given re books available for download from such as Amazon.

1988
- A Very Quiet Place by Andrew Garve. Chivers Audio Books. 5 hrs 30 mins on audio cassette.

1989
- Skin For Skin by Douglas Rutherford. Chivers Audio Books. 5 hrs 45 mins on audio cassette.

1990
- Red Fox by Gerald Seymour. Chivers Audio Books. 12 hrs 30 mins on audio cassette.

1991
- The African Queen by C.S. Forester. Chivers Audio Books. 6 hrs on audio cassette. Later released on CD by AudioGO Ltd.

- Christmas Story Collection comprising four short stories: The Man Who Went Too Far by EF Benson, The Three Strangers by Thomas Hardy, The Shooting Party by Virginia Wolf and Malachi's Cove by Anthony Trolloppe. Hodder & Stoughton. 2 hrs 49 mins on audio cassette.
Note: The title of this collection is odd, considering that none of the stories has anything to do with Christmas. This does appear to be the title under which it was published, but a reference to Country Story Collection was seen once, which is more applicable, so should be born in mind when searching for this item.

1996
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Chivers Audio Books. 11 hrs 48 mins on audio cassette. Released on CD in 2000 by BBC Audiobooks.

1997

Hi Wit Tea, quite a number of audiobooks are available at audiogo.co.uk - the official BBC audiobook site, either on CD or per download:

http://www.audiogo.co.uk/search?q=%22mi ... e%2520desc

Just don't get the fat boy one, that's an error

Alternatively you could try www.audible.com or www.audible.co.uk

Thank-you for the book list again, Lynne. I have listened to many of Mr.Kitchen's narrations from the list and love them all.

I cannot find the collection of Christmas stories, even on the sites you mention, Bee. You are so good at finding things that maybe you've seen it? I would love to know if you or anyone has seen that collection available.

And, Bee, thanks for finding all that you do for us concerning Mr. Kitchen's work.

Bee!
You are amazing at locating information! I'd love to know what you do for a living and if research is a part of it.

I'll immediately look into the information you mention about the U.K. Thank-you so much!

Grateful in Colorado,

Bee...
Your attention to detail will make you great at anything you do.

I am working on the U.K. purchase. Not there yet. If you can get this one, do. I'll have less trouble if it doesn't say that they won't send outside of the U.K.

THANK-YOU!

I am fortunate to have enjoyed all of them now, except for two. I have no desire to own the Christmas one but very much would like to find Top Storey Murder as it has so far remained elusive, If anyone hears of it being available I would love to know. If it is within my budget.....? Has anyone else listened to it?. IMHO only a couple did not measure up to his usual high level, one being Wide Sargasso Sea. Even then....it was MK.!!! Be well, everyone.

Michael Dibdin's Aurelio Zen novels: do they have to be read in a certain order? I have an Audible credit coming up, and while I would like to hear MK read one of those, I don't want to be too confused; I'd rather wait and read/listen to them in order rather than be confused.

Thanks,
Samfan

Although there are various changes in Zen's personal and professional life throughout the books as Dibdin wrote them, these are not too important to the plots, and each story can stand alone as a compelling mystery.

Thanks Lesley! Maybe I'll check out one of the Aurelio novels for my next audiobook.

I'm happy to see that The Book Depository, which sells the Foyle's War book, is now starting to sell some of MK's newer audiobooks - three in the Aurelio Zen series so far. The rest are listed as unavailable so far (but are listed  ):

Thanks for this, Sunshine! Perhaps if enough of us ask to be notified about availability, it will spur them to produce certain things on demand? We can hope.

Re: MK Audio Bks--Wuthering Heights

Postby Samfan » Thu Jul 05, 2012 9:33 pm

I was browsing my "Wish List" on Audible today, and I had put on there MK readings of books. I noted that I have Wuthering Heights on there twice (both read by MK):

1. Released 10-13-06; time 11 hrs, 41 mins
2. Released 6-20-11; time 11 hrs, 39 mins

Are these the same audiobooks, just released at different times? Each one has a different "book cover" picture, but that might not mean anything. I listened to samples of both, and couldn't tell much difference between the readings. In you good people's opinion, which reading is better (if they are different)? As much as I enjoy listening to MK's audiobook performances, I really don't want to get 2 of the same story.

Thanks!
