Anyone else think this episode is just brilliant? It's incredibly rich in detail, emotions run exceptionally high and low and yet ends of a beautiful note.

Can't wait for Lynne's transcript of this one

Well the pools win scene certainly kick-started something with me :D

I thought Graham Crowden and Phyllida Law were a class act.

Football pools, Jewell. You select which teams you think are going to win by placing crosses on your form. Purists select on team knowledge. In Broken Souls, Foyle selects at random... and wins them £100.

Love this scene! Brookie thinks Foyle is cracked for just picking something at random, but I think The Man knows more than he's telling (as always) and has his own "system"! Then Mr. F wants to donate the money, which I think is very sweet and typical of him, especially with what happened to his friend. Foyle is nothing if not loyal.

This IS a great episode, with much emotional value, and touching on a subject that is not popular, not pleasant, but one that I think was nice for them to address. The look on Foyle's face in his office at the end, when thinking about his friend just breaks my heart.

Thank goodness! I thought I'd missed Foyle in his swim trunks.

No, I puzzled over this for a bit while being crazy busy at work. No swimming pool scenes that I could recall. No scenes in a smoke filled pool hall. Just couldn't figure it out. Never thought about the football pool.

Must go watch To Play the King. Black trunks! And a budgie cameo.

"Broken Souls" is a difficult episode to watch, but so well done and emotional indeed. The end scene also features an excellent insertion of Chopin's music and the image of the chess piece. Applause to all, on screen and off. :rose:
Just looked over the chapter on "Horse Racing and Illegal Rambling."

I haven't got the requisite capacity for deceit.
