FW.com under new management!

FW.com under new management!

Postby Lynnedean » Tue Jan 22, 2013 6:36 pm

It seems that Fiona has given up on her FW website, as if you go now to foyleswar.com, you'll find a message from Acorn, saying that they are developing "a fun and informative fansite for all things Foyle's War"!

It's something of a shock, and I can't see Acorn giving FW the loving treatment Fiona did. And, of course, the detailed write-ups of the episodes won't be there.

~ Lynne

ETA: Strangely, the link to foyleswar.com is still showing on Fiona's over-all website nothing-fancy.com, although it leads to the Acorn announcement. I wonder if Fiona really has given up the FW domain or if she's simply inadvertently not renewed the lease, and Acorn have been quick to grab the name.

Well, crud!

I just visited the site this weekend to look something up.

Some wise woman advised me to cut and paste all of the episode write-ups to my hard drive. Good advice, wish I'd taken it.

I like Acorn, they seem to be okay for a corporate entity but I'm sure it won't be as easy- going as the site was and I don't think they'll have the detailed write-ups available. I often use the write-ups for quick research for fanfic.

Need we fear for the Michael Kitchen site also? I don't know what I'd do without it.

Jewell, I did all but two of the write-ups; Fiona did Bleak Midwinter and Casualties Of War. I can supply copies of mine and hers if you'd like them. For my own purposes, I'd actually just begun to do wups of the last three eps, which Fiona hadn't got around to adding, but when I'll have time to complete them, I don't know.

Edited to correct episode titles.

Just checked out the internet archive wayback machine - and yep, there you can still find the old FW site.
Google: the internet archive wayback machine, choose "Web" and write inthe search field: http://www.foyleswar.com/

I think it was Wolesley, who once told us about this fine archive.

Thanks Eagle Day (and Lesley!)

All of the sudden, now that its gone, I want to go to the Foyle's War website. :eyeroll:

I'd actually like to have those synopses of the episodes.

I hope the Michael Kitchen site doesn't go away. It is just so full of information. Guess I'd better start copying. Glad I got all those pictures from the FW site. Sad that it is gone. I know a lot of hard work went into it.

Thanks, EagleDay! The whole thing can be accessed by the Wayback Machine, so it isn't lost to us. It's lost to Fiona, though, in the sense that she no longer has control of FW.com online, and I'm very sorry about that.

Well there may be other news about this development, because Fiona has just joined our discussion board! Yay! Welcome, Florrie!

I've just had an email from Fiona - she has moved her FW site into the Nothing-Fancy domain, and has been working for two weeks on updating all the links, and needs another week or so to get it up and running. If you go there now, you will get a lot of "file not found" messages, so be patient. This is very exciting news!

It will be www.nothing-fancy.com/foyleswar

Thanks, Lesley. I'm up to 304 and then all the ancillary pages after that. Even with a find and replace it takes a while, but I'll get there. :foyle1: Aw, missed those foylies!

Fiona - it's great to hear from you!

And it's really good to know that your terrific FW website hasn't disappeared but is just moving home.

Have missed you, kidda.

Hi guys :foyle1: Nice to see you all. Gary Davis at Acorn/RLJ/Image Entertainment (or whatever they are called now) said they plan a fairly comprehensive website but it will be interesting to see what they actually come up with. Ours will be archived safely at nothing-fancy though. Does anyone have a copy of the wallpapers I used to have for download at fw.com? Can't find the graphics for the life of me. And has anyone being playing the mahjong? I don't know if it has survived either! :George: Is this George smilie one of mine? I don't remember making it... but I don't remember a lot of things! :foyle4:
