Why no honour for MK?

Why no honour for MK?

Postby starlight » Sun Jun 15, 2014 4:50 pm

Somebody posted this question on my Tumblr.

Why oh why is the talented MK never in the Queens Honours List? Am I the only one to think this is so unfair.

Curious to hear opinions on the subject.
  • Has he not been nominated? :noidea:
  • Is he likely to have declined an offered honour? :-?
Quite aware this is speculative.

I'd imagine that his dislike of publicity would make him a difficult chap to nominate.

Don't know where the discussion is, Starlight, but it's here somewhere. Look under the guest bed.

Two top contending theories:

1. He was offered but turned it down.

2. His portrayal of "the King" in To Play the King got him banned for life

The third possibility, that he just isn't worthy, found little to no support.

But he played such a compassionate and honourable sort of king. Hmm.
...And I do hope that you find somebody who deserves you.

But, according to those people who have seen more of him than I, a parody of Prince Charles.

Just reporting what others have said.

Re the parody angle, I can only refer you to Lynne's post, quoting Ian Richardson and Andrew Davies, who concur that MK sounds like Charles in real life

Hmm, given that Charles is 14 days younger than MK, and also developed a habit of conveying his inner thoughts by chewing on his lips and cheeks, I'd say the Prince must be doing a parody of Mr.Kitchen!

Just looked over the chapter on "Horse Racing and Illegal Rambling."

From an interview with Sir Derek Jacobi, on being offered a knighthood:
"You get two boxes – yes or no,” he explains.
“I thought long and hard about it and then ticked ‘Yes’.
“It’s strange and lovely and I’m very proud, but I don’t really use it. People call me Derek.”

I'm sure Starlight could come up with an appropriate image of MK deliberating over those two boxes!

Lesley

P.S.
Love this quote, too:
“Baddies and victims,” smiles Derek. “Those are the best parts."
